Job Description

This is a great opportunity to join a ground-breaking organisation at an exciting point in its development. IMPRESS is the first press regulator in the UK to be externally recognised as independent and effective, giving publishers the freedom to report hard-hitting stories and the responsibility to behave fairly if complaints are made against them.

IMPRESS’s growing membership already includes more than 180 news publications from hyperlocals to international investigative platforms. They publish a wide range of community news, investigative reporting and political commentary. They are an important part of the future of the news media, at a time of crisis over ‘disinformation and misinformation’ and a reshaping of the business models underpinning, and delivery of, news to the public.

The Regulatory Executive is responsible for handling of complaints and undertaking investigations in accordance with the IMPRESS Regulatory Scheme as well as ensuring that member publishers comply with IMPRESS’s internal governance requirements. This is an excellent and challenging opportunity for an individual with strong communication skills to join a new, ambitious and fast developing organisation, with an interest in the regulatory and standards issues in the press.

The position is based in IMPRESS’s offices in the heart of London, within a short walk of Blackfriars Underground Station. The post holder will report to the Head of Regulation.

  • Investigate complaints in line with the IMPRESS Regulatory Scheme.
  • Arrange Committees and compile and distribute papers in advance of meetings.

  • Liaise with external service providers to ensure services are administered effectively and efficiently.
  • Undertake research into legal and regulatory issues.
  • Undertake regulatory project management.
  • Support consultation responses to external inquiries and reviews.
