Vacancies - Regulatory Committee Members

Time requirement: 4 half days per year

Renumeration: Nominal appointment fee plus expenses


IMPRESS is the only regulator to be approved under the Royal Charter on self regulation of the press. We are seeking to appoint up to six individuals with extensive experience of journalism or media law to sit on ad hoc regulatory committees alongside current Board members. Members should have experience of fair and impartial decision making and must be independent of the press and government and be willing to comply with IMPRESS’s Code of Conduct. Regulatory Committees meet to adjudicate on complaints that are made to IMPRESS or are initiated by IMPRESS, about the published content, news gathering activities or internal governance standards of regulated publications.

Individual members are unlikely to be nominated to sit on more than four Committees each year. The time commitment for each Committee is normally around half a day which includes the reading of background papers, a meeting to discuss the decision and review and comment on adjudication drafts. Remote attendance by tele or video conference is available for all meetings.
