IMPRESS Calls on Government to Implement Section 40 Without Further Delay

IMPRESS has today published its submission to the Government consultation on the Leveson enquiry and its implementation, in which it calls for the immediate implementation of Section 40.

Jonathan Heawood, CEO of IMPRESS said: “At IMPRESS we want a society which can expect decent standards from its press.  Where journalists are free to report stories in the public interest without fear of those with more power.  Where people who are harmed by the press can get access to justice and redress without the risk of huge legal costs.  And where truly independent regulation – without influence from government or business – can build a new sense of trust between journalists and the public.

We believe that Section 40 will create new opportunities for investigative journalism whilst protecting the public from harm.  That’s why we have called for its full implementation.
